In 2020-21, the Black Lives Matter movement and the series of protests and ongoing debates surrounding nineteenth-century memorials for ‘great men’ with more chequered (often imperialist, racist, or both) pasts, known as the Statue Wars, garnered much attention.
In addition to co-editing a special issue of Public History Review with Mariko Smith in 2021, I took part in two panels discussing the implications of the debate.
